About our reports

Every Audsey report links here. Please read this before relying on a report or sharing it.

Audsey is a website accessibility evaluation service operated by Site Hatchery. These terms describe the reports, data and recommendations it produces. If you have a signed agreement or statement of work with us, it governs the service we provide to you and controls where it differs from this page.

What a report is

A report evaluates the website pages it lists, on the date it states, against the standard it names, usually the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. An evaluation may combine:

  • automated testing with several engines, whose exact versions are recorded in the report;
  • review by a person of keyboard use, structure, zoom and reflow, contrast and forms, assisted by software;
  • screen reader testing; and
  • verification of specific findings by a person.

The report says which of these were performed, under "Method and limitations."

What a report is not

  • Not a certification. A report is an evaluation at a point in time. It does not certify that a website conforms to WCAG or any other standard.
  • Not legal advice. A report does not state whether a website complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, state law or any other law, and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified attorney.
  • No guarantee against claims. Improving accessibility reduces the barriers that can lead to complaints. But neither a report nor any remediation guarantees that a website is free of barriers or protected from complaints, demand letters, lawsuits or government action.

Limits of testing

Automated and software-assisted testing can't find every accessibility barrier. Some criteria can only be confirmed by people, and people who use assistive technology every day may run into problems that testing didn't reveal. Results depend on the content, configuration, browsers and third-party services present when the evaluation ran.

Websites change. A report doesn't describe content added or changed after its date, or content behind logins, in documents such as PDFs, or in third-party services, unless the report says it was tested.

The Accessibility index

The Accessibility index is a weighted summary of the WCAG criteria decided in an evaluation, from 0 to 100. It is not a percentage of compliance and must not be presented as one. How the index is worked out.

Sharing a report

Reports are prepared for the client named in them, and belong to that client. You may share a report with others, such as a procurement officer, an insurer or your attorney. Please share it in full, including its method and limitations, so the results aren't read out of context.

Badges and statements

The "Accessibility monitored by Audsey" badge means the site is monitored by Audsey and links to its latest published results. It doesn't mean the site is certified or compliant. Accessibility statements we prepare describe what was tested and found. Please don't edit them to claim more.
